Configuring Components
Jira components can only be configured by project admins or above.
Create a Jira component
In your project sidebar, select Components.
Next to Create component, check that the project is using Jira components and not Compass components. If it’s switched to Compass components, your project admin will need to switch to Jira components.
Select Create component.
Fill out the new component’s information.
The name is used in an issue’s Components field, and when searching for component in the project.
The description appears next to the component on the Components page, and helps people understand what it represents.
The component lead is the person responsible for overseeing work related to the component.
The default assignee is the person automatically assigned to new issues that include the component.
The project default assignee is the person who confirms that reported issues are meant for their team, and who re-assigns them accordingly.
The project lead assignee is the person who controls and manages a project's settings. This person is defined in the project settings.
The component lead assignee is the person responsible for overseeing work related to the component. This person is defined in the Component lead field.
If the component stays unassigned, new issues that include this component aren’t assigned to anyone.
Select Save.
The new component will appear on the Components page. Everyone in the project can now view, search for, and link issues to the Jira component.
Edit a Jira component
In your project sidebar, select Components.
Find the component you want to edit, and select More actions > Edit.
Change any information you need to.
Select Save.
Delete a Jira component
In your project sidebar, select Components.
Find the component you want to delete, and select More actions > Delete.
